NAWBO Ventura County - Our new year and our new Board of Directors
Dear Sandy,
Many of you attended the recent Board Installation at the Four Seasons Hotel on July 23, 2009. Those of you who could not attend missed a very nice evening.
I am honored, and very excited, to have the new Board of Directors for 2009 - 2010. As announced at the installation they are...
President Elect Robin Martino Secretary Joy Sakata Treasurer Jerri Hemsworth Immediate Past President Sonia Cohen Chairs of Membership - Neil Palache Corporate Partners - Debbi Reed / Debbie Gregory Programs - Elaine Hollifield Public Policy - Colleen King Publicity - Heidi Lundgren
Following are the goals we have established for this new year...
Increase membership / corporate partners by -
Adding value for members and corporate partners
Creating an atmosphere where members and corporate partners strongly feel that it is a privilege to be associated with NAWBO VC.
We're off to a good start.....we announced two new Corporate Partners in the past few months. We are now pleased to announce Anthem Blue Cross and Union Bank as Corporate Partners. What a coup that is for NAWBO VC. And, folks, we have just begun. We're asking you to share with us the names of any corporations that you believe would be great partners with us.
Increase education and benefits for members and corporate partners by...
Welcoming and supporting our new members
Scheduling a new member event 3 - 4 times a year
Communicating with each member personally to determine what they need to help grow their business
Determining education needs
Offering special work shops
Creating a Mentor Program
Determining feasibility of Master Mind Group
Providing opportunities for members to speak at our events (see article about application)
We want to support our Corporate Partners to the best of our ability. And, we want to take advantage of the offerings they provide to us.
Have fun!
Last, but certainly not least, we all want to have fun!
Effective immediately we will have a Member of the Month. That person will be recognized in that month's newsletter and on the web site. The Member of the Month will also be given an allotted time to speak at the next month's meeting, telling us about themselves and their business. We will draw monthly to see who the MotM is. We'll be providing the guidelines for this program.
We're going green this year. Instead of having feedback sheets on the tables at the dinners and other functions we are going to send out on line surveys asking what you thought. Please remember that if you don't take the time to provide feedback we must assume we're doing a great job and that nothing needs to be fixed.
We're sending out business opportunities notifications when we hear about them. If the opportunity is not something you do, but it's something your friend or neighbor does, share it. We want to help everyone we can.
We are working on updating the web site and on line registration application to make things easier and more efficient. You will need to watch for updates on that. Once we get things changed you will have a member log in and we'll be able to share information that's useful to the members and not open to the general public.
I mentioned new educational opportunities. We'll also want to strengthen our knowledge of each member's business and confidence in each member so that we can make great referrals when we hear of business opportunities.
If you listen to the news (which I try very hard not to), we are all facing some challenging times. If we stick together as a chapter, and if we can accomplish the things I have already talked about, we will have fun! We're going to continue our networking mixers and we're going to think of other great opportunities whereby we can really get to know each other and determine how we can help each other be successful. We'll be including other groups in some of our activities so that we can join forces.
As we strengthen our knowledge of each others' businesses, as we gain trust and confidence in each other and as we partner to make things happen we can't help but far exceed our mission. But again, we will be only as strong as our membership. Each member must be involved for our success as it will, in turn, help in your success.
Thank you! We're off and running. Be sure and jump on the band wagon!
Sandy Allan, President NAWBO VC
